A VMware vSAN Case Study
Autopista Vespucio Norte (AVN), the concessionaire that runs an 18-mile urban highway in Santiago de Chile, needed a technology renewal to maintain uptime and performance while migrating a large virtualization estate. Preserving operations during the unprecedented move to a VSAN-based platform was a major challenge for the IT team, which chose VMware vSAN (with VMware vSphere 5.5) as the vendor platform for the upgrade.
VMware vSAN was deployed as the core storage layer alongside vSphere to create a fully virtualized, high-performance infrastructure. The migration preserved operations, increased control of IT service delivery and delivered measurable savings — about a 50% reduction in capital expenditure per application and more than a 60% reduction in operating expenses per application — while improving scalability, availability and manageability.
