A VMware vSAN Case Study
Agropur Ingredients, a La Crosse, Wisconsin–based food and dairy processor, faced an aging, out-of-capacity storage environment that was slowing business‑critical applications and threatening round‑the‑clock cheese and ingredient production. Because many plants rely on local data centers and limited internet connectivity, Agropur Ingredients needed a resilient, easy‑to‑manage on‑premises storage solution to improve performance, reduce downtime, and free its server team for higher‑value work; the company chose VMware vSAN to address these challenges.
Agropur Ingredients replaced its direct‑attached storage with VMware vSAN (integrated with its existing VMware vSphere environment), deploying the solution across multiple plants in under an hour. The new hyperconverged setup provides four Supermicro hosts with about 15 TB per host and three 200 GB SSDs each, eliminated costly outages, and vastly improved application responsiveness (ERP reports no longer stall the system). With faster provisioning (new servers in under 10 minutes and near‑instant reboot recovery), lower overall cost, and simplified maintenance, VMware vSAN delivered measurable capacity, performance, and operational gains.
