A VMware vSAN Case Study
AeroData, Inc., a provider of aircraft performance and load-planning services that supports roughly 21,000 flights per day, faced limitations from hardware-defined data centers that constrained agility, scalability and availability while making it hard to meet federal security and customer compliance requirements. To modernize, AeroData adopted a software-defined approach using VMware vSAN alongside VMware NSX as the core network virtualization platform (plus vRealize Log Insight and partner WAN, DNS and MPLS solutions) to replace hardware-dependent networking and storage.
Using VMware vSAN and NSX, AeroData migrated firewall, load‑balancing, routing and monitoring into a centralized SDDC with micro-segmentation and active‑active cross‑data‑center routing, eliminating single points of failure. The VMware vSAN-enabled solution cut firewall rules by over 85% (from ~2,000 to 250), improved application availability to 99.999% uptime, reduced costs by at least 50%, boosted bandwidth utilization up to 80% with WAN acceleration, and simplified operations and compliance management.
