Yahoo! JAPAN To Build Largest Open Source-Based Cloud Platform

Yahoo! JAPAN, the country’s top web destination and the 15th‑most visited site globally (about 273M monthly unique browsers and 68.1B monthly pageviews), needed a unified, mobile‑first service platform and continuous delivery pipeline to support explosive growth across shopping, auction and media and to dramatically improve developer productivity and release velocity.

To address this, Yahoo! JAPAN partnered with Pivotal to deploy Pivotal Cloud Foundry on top of its OpenStack infrastructure, building one of the world’s largest open source‑based private clouds. The cloud‑native PaaS enables mobile‑first development, continuous delivery and OSS collaboration at global scale, boosting developer productivity and delivery speed—targeting up to a 10x improvement—with initial rollouts beginning in the second half of 2016.
