Telenor Microfinance Bank Accelerates Financial Inclusion with VMware Tanzu

Telenor Microfinance Bank (TMB), operator of the Easypaisa mobile wallet and one of Pakistan’s largest microfinance banks, needed to scale digital payments to reach the unbanked but found its legacy IT unable to support small‑ticket, high‑volume transactions or rapid, 24/7 development and testing. With roughly 110–120 million monthly transactions and surging post‑pandemic demand, the bank required faster provisioning, better resource utilization and DevOps capabilities to bring new services to market.

Working with VMware and Premier Systems, TMB implemented VMware vSphere with Tanzu (Tanzu Kubernetes Grid, Tanzu Observability and NSX‑T), shifting to containerized, Kubernetes‑based infrastructure. The move cut provisioning from days to minutes, enabled autoscaling and easy rollbacks, reduced compute and memory usage by about 15%, and accelerated time‑to‑market—allowing Easypaisa to handle sharply increased transaction volumes while speeding innovation and streamlining development, testing and rollout.
