Secureworks Surfing the Wavefront with Observability

Secureworks is a global cybersecurity leader that combines machine learning and human expertise to detect, respond to, and prevent threats—processing roughly 300 billion security events daily and offering services like the Red Cloak TDR SaaS. Rapid growth and a diverse multicloud environment (Java workloads, MySQL, Cassandra, Kafka, etc.) exposed limitations in Secureworks’ early monitoring approach: a mix of homegrown and open‑source tools led to fragmented dashboards, timestamp sync issues, scaling pain, and costly developer time spent maintaining multiple monitoring islands.

Secureworks moved to Wavefront, a fully managed SaaS observability platform that ingested their existing metric pipelines, introduced rich tagging, and allowed easy migration of Grafana dashboards with vendor support. Wavefront became their “first pane of glass,” unifying metrics, speeding diagnosis, reducing MTTR and context switching, and freeing engineers to focus on new features; Secureworks is now expanding into distributed tracing and service maps to further improve visibility.
