A VMware Tanzu Case Study
KB Insurance, a major South Korean insurer, responded to COVID-19 mask shortages—long queues and limited supply—by turning government mask-inventory data into a public service. When the government published an API on March 10, KB rapidly decided to help customers proactively and launched Mask Alimi (“Mask Nearby”) the next day to show nearby mask availability.
They built and deployed the app on CLAYON, a cloud-native platform based on VMware Tanzu, with one developer producing the initial version in six hours and the team releasing daily updates thereafter. Automated deployment, scaling, and zero-downtime updates handled heavy traffic; the service reached 230,000 users and 5.7 million page views, supported remote customer outreach, and validated agile decision-making plus modern cloud tooling.
