A VMware Tanzu Case Study
Royal Bank of Canada (RBC), one of Canada’s largest banks serving 16 million clients, needed to move legacy apps to cloud-native platforms while delivering high availability, low-latency transactions and proactive monitoring—rejecting slow, ticket-driven ops in favor of a more resilient, measurable approach. A small platform team needed to support hundreds of application teams across multiple foundations without growing toil or risking compliance gaps.
RBC adopted an SRE culture running Pivotal Platform on VMware, defined SLIs/SLOs, and treated the platform as a product; they automated configuration and upgrades with Concourse and a Git-backed Platform Automation pipeline and introduced chaos testing and game days to build resilience. Today a two‑pizza team manages four Pivotal foundations hosting 7,200+ application instances for 200+ teams, with fewer manual changes, faster onboarding, stronger compliance and greater operational confidence.
