How Orange France transformed software development and defied the naysayers

Orange France’s B2B division, led by CDO Xavier Perret, set out to build a self‑service mobile app to let corporate customers troubleshoot issues and access billing information, with the ambitious goal of delivering working software in six months—about a third of Orange’s typical release cycle. The fast timeline and customer-driven, iterative approach initially met with skepticism inside the company.

Orange partnered with Pivotal Labs, used pair programming and Agile practices, and deployed the app on Pivotal Cloud Foundry to remove operational overhead and accelerate development. The team delivered an MVP in six months (October 2016), reduced incoming support calls, continues to iterate based on real user feedback, and has begun scaling the new development approach across the company.
