Ford is reinventing itself from a traditional automaker into a mobility company focused on connecting vehicles and delivering new customer experiences. Facing rapid change from IoT and connected-car opportunities, Ford needed to replace slow, siloed development cycles with a culture and organization that could rapidly experiment, build and iterate software at scale.

Working with VMware Pivotal Labs and using VMware Tanzu Application Service, Ford created small autonomous product teams (FordLabs), launched FordPass and adopted CI/CD and cloud-portable platforms. The result: faster experimentation and monthly releases instead of annual updates, smoother cloud migration and greater developer autonomy—enabling Ford to deliver new, customer-focused mobility services more quickly and reliably.
