How digital, curated content promotes mental health awareness for Australian road transport workers

Healthy Heads in Trucks & Sheds (HHTS) is a nonprofit founded in 2020 by major Australian retailers and logistics firms to address severe mental and physical health risks among road transport drivers, shed workers, and logistics staff. Facing high rates of depression, suicide, fatigue and workplace-related health decline—compounded by stigma in a male‑dominated industry and irregular schedules—HHTS needed a practical, industry‑specific way to deliver support quickly and in a format workers would use.

HHTS partnered with VMware Tanzu Act to design and build a mobile app grounded in user interviews and rapid testing. The app delivers tailored handbooks, wellbeing check‑ins, short stretching and breathing routines, and links to crisis services (Beyond Blue, Lifeline); the first build was completed in months and has since added hundreds of resources from user feedback. Early results include 1,000+ downloads, positive employer interest for preloading on company devices, and an ongoing roadmap (for example, rest‑area mapping) to expand reach and impact.
