Case Study: Datacom achieves sovereign cloud provider status and accelerates Cloud X launch with VMware Tanzu

A VMware Tanzu Case Study

Preview of the Datacom Case Study

How Datacom worked with VMware to deliver new products quickly and reduce operational complexity

Datacom, Australasia’s largest home‑grown technology company, supports government and commercial customers with critical cloud services but faced mounting pressure to deliver hybrid cloud capabilities that guarantee data sovereignty, reduce operational complexity, and accelerate adoption of containers, automation and micro‑segmentation across restricted environments. Inconsistent, engineering‑heavy deployments and the need to keep workloads inside national boundaries made a standardized, scalable platform essential.

Datacom partnered with VMware Professional Services to build Datacom Cloud X on VMware Cloud Foundation, incorporating VMware NSX Distributed Firewall, vRealize Automation and Tanzu to automate deployments, secure east‑west traffic and enable cloud‑native migrations. Launched in October 2021 and recognized as a VMware Sovereign Cloud Provider, Cloud X shortened time‑to‑market, simplified operations, helped retain and win government business, and gave customers a predictable, sovereign hybrid cloud platform for ongoing innovation.
