DATEV, one of Europe’s largest providers of business software and IT services for tax consultants, auditors and small‑to‑medium enterprises, faced mounting pressure from rapid market changes and tighter government deadlines while handling highly sensitive payroll and tax data. Its legacy on‑premises data center and development practices could not deliver the agility, scalability or speed required to meet frequent regulatory changes and evolving customer needs.

DATEV partnered with VMware and Tanzu Labs, deploying VMware Cloud Foundation on VxRail, Tanzu Kubernetes Grid and NSX Data Center to create a hybrid cloud platform and refactor applications into microservices “slice by slice.” This enabled automated, self‑service infrastructure, faster development and deployment, improved resilience and compliance, and a significant acceleration in responding to market and legal changes—positioning DATEV for continued cloud‑native transformation and better customer services.
