Adopting PCF At An Automobile Manufacturer

Mercedes‑Benz.io, the digital arm of Mercedes‑Benz, faced the challenge of replacing heavyweight monolithic applications with a lightweight, flexible microservice architecture to accelerate release cycles, enable horizontal scalability across many teams, and drive digital transformation within a corporate environment.

The team implemented a Pivotal Cloud Foundry (PCF) platform using Spring Boot, Spring Cloud and Spring Cloud Services, organized business services into PCF orgs and spaces, and introduced shared services, an API gateway, application versioning and zero‑downtime deployment patterns. The solution went into production, delivering faster releases and scalable services across multiple teams while surfacing lessons and opportunities for ongoing platform improvements.
