AFCU Modernizes with Automated Cloud Infrastructure

America First Credit Union (AFCU), Utah’s largest credit union and one of the largest in the U.S. with more than 1.3 million members and over $17 billion in assets, struggled with a lean IT team overloaded by routine infrastructure tasks, complex regulatory controls, and slow product launches that increased member costs. AFCU needed standardized, portable infrastructure and automation to improve compliance, speed innovation, and reduce operational overhead.

Working with VMware Professional Services, AFCU modernized and migrated to an automated multi‑cloud platform using Azure VMware Solution, vSphere, VMware Tanzu and VMware Aria Automation. The transformation cut manual patching and management, freed developers for strategic work, improved portability and compliance across data centers and clouds, and enabled AI-driven services (conversational chatbots and automated loan decisions) that deliver faster, more efficient member experiences.
