A VMware SD-WAN Case Study
Redmond, Inc., a Utah-based company known for brands like Real Salt, operates retail stores, manufacturing sites and branches across Utah and Colorado and grew over 800% in a decade. Its centralized IT had to support diverse needs—retail PCI requirements, responsive telephony for customer service, mobility in warehouses and virtual desktops for remote workers—while aging branch hardware and unpredictable public Internet links degraded VoIP and VDI performance and drove up costs.
Redmond deployed VMware SD-WAN by VeloCloud to replace aging branch infrastructure with a cloud-delivered, policy-driven WAN running over ordinary broadband and mixed links. The rollout (30-minute installs per site) delivered high-quality corporate VoIP and virtual desktops, improved application and Internet-bound performance by about 50%, met PCI 3.0 mandates, avoided branch CAPEX, cut OPEX and management time (≈20% savings) and enabled 5x faster device deployment and management.
