A VMware SD-WAN Case Study
A well-known North American hospitality company with more than 500 MPLS-connected sites needed to reduce wasteful backhaul to its data center and deliver firewall services closer to branch offices at regional hubs. Managing the required policy-based routing with thousands of CLI lines was complex and error-prone, and the company also needed to ensure zero-tolerance voice uptime and higher MOS scores than their existing link measurements provided.
They deployed a cloud-hosted VMware SD‑WAN by VeloCloud to centralize orchestration, eliminate on‑prem controllers and CLI PBRs, and add Internet links at branches alongside MPLS. The solution enabled simple, policy-driven steering to regional firewalls, sub-second failover and per-packet steering for voice, and real-time link visibility; after a five-site trial they rolled it out to 500+ sites, freeing datacenter bandwidth, guaranteeing required voice uptime, and maintaining excellent MOS scores.
