Case Study: MD Anderson Cancer Center achieves faster radiology diagnostics and secure remote care with VMware SD‑WAN

A VMware SD-WAN Case Study

Preview of the MD Anderson Cancer Center Case Study

Keeping Critical Patients Safe and Treated Using SD-WAN

MD Anderson Cancer Center, a world-leading cancer treatment and research institution in Houston, faced network challenges from inflexible legacy MPLS and commodity broadband across dozens of buildings and remote sites. These limitations — exacerbated by the rapid shift to home offices during COVID‑19 — slowed bandwidth‑heavy radiology workflows and made adding new locations time-consuming.

MD Anderson deployed VMware SD‑WAN by VeloCloud, using zero‑touch provisioning and centralized orchestration to extend the corporate network to 200+ sites and roughly 700–1,000 edge devices for remote workers. The solution delivered automation, visibility, and consistent onsite/offsite performance, speeding radiology image delivery, increasing scan throughput, improving collaboration and resiliency, and accelerating diagnostics and billing to enhance patient care.
