Case Study: STAR Financial Bank achieves secure, high-performance video-enabled rural banking with VMware SD-WAN

A VMware SD-WAN Case Study

Preview of the STAR Financial Bank Case Study

Bringing Secure Interactive Financial Services to Rural Regions

STAR Financial Bank, a community bank based in Fort Wayne, IN serving largely rural customers, needed to expand video-enabled interactive teller machines (ITMs) and migrate to cloud services while meeting strict encryption and reliability requirements. Its legacy MPLS and router-based network provided limited bandwidth, high cost, and poor performance for video, making new site deployments and a consistent customer experience difficult.

Working with partner LincLogix, STAR Financial piloted and then rolled out VMware SD‑WAN (VeloCloud) to aggregate and optimize multiple broadband links, encrypt traffic, and centralize management via the SD‑WAN Orchestrator. The deployment preserved existing router investments during migration, delivered low‑cost redundancy and failover, improved application and video performance, enabled secure cloud access, and made it practical to deploy new ITM sites anywhere while reducing costs and increasing network visibility.
