Bringing Back Doctor Home Visits with SD-WAN

Saber Healthcare, which manages care for about 10,000 residents across more than 120 facilities, faced bandwidth constraints, poor network visibility, and lengthy, costly site onboarding under a legacy MPLS environment. Those limitations threatened its HIPAA‑compliant Telehealth program—used to deliver virtual doctor visits and reduce hospital readmissions—and made integrating acquired facilities slow and expensive.

Partnering with WAN Dynamics and deploying VMware SD‑WAN (Orchestrator, Gateways and Edges), Saber migrated off MPLS to a centrally managed SD‑WAN that leverages low‑cost broadband links. The rollout cut new‑site deployment from 30–60 days to hours or 3–5 days, improved end‑to‑end visibility and remote troubleshooting, optimized QoS for video/voice/records, reduced in‑person doctor visits, and lowered per‑site connectivity costs.
