Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium Speeds COVID-19 Testing Site Rollouts with VMware SD-WAN

The Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium (ANTHC), a non‑profit serving Alaska Native and American Indian communities, needed to rapidly extend COVID‑19 testing and other care to remote sites with limited or no circuits. Inconsistent network services and latency‑sensitive applications like EHR, telehealth, and VoIP threatened service quality and slowed deployments.

Working with partner GCSIT, ANTHC deployed VMware SD‑WAN (including LTE‑equipped Edge devices and mobile hotspots) to deliver bandwidth‑flexible, QoS‑enabled connectivity for popup sites. The solution provided same‑day access to EHR, voice, and conferencing, resolved voice quality issues, created a repeatable rollout model for new locations, and added optional backup links—with ongoing support from VMware and GCSIT.
