A VMware AirWatch Case Study

Preview of the Philips Case Study

Philips - Customer Case Study

Philips, the global research and manufacturing company, faced a rigidly siloed organization and the unsanctioned viral adoption of a free microblogging tool, raising concerns about security and uncontrolled corporate communication. To address the need for better collaboration and employee engagement, Philips evaluated a more strategic social collaboration approach and selected VMware AirWatch’s social collaboration platform, VMware Socialcast.

VMware AirWatch implemented VMware Socialcast as a private cloud-hosted enterprise social network, launched as “Connect Us” and later renamed the Philips Community. The platform was integrated with Philips’ intranet, SharePoint, video sharing, and other internal apps, helping drive strong adoption: within two weeks of pilot rollout membership exceeded 2,000, reached 10,000 in two months, and grew to 63,000 signed-up users over five years, with 40% active monthly. Philips also reported 55% of questions answered within an hour and 90% within 24 hours, improved cross-geography and cross-level collaboration, and a stronger culture of transparency and knowledge sharing.
