A VMware AirWatch Case Study
Houston County Board of Education, serving about 28,000 K-12 students across 38 campuses in Georgia, needed a stronger wireless foundation to support its mobility initiative and BYOD rollout. The district wanted a high-performance, secure network that could handle more student devices, support cloud-based learning tools, and be managed simply across many locations. VMware AirWatch was part of the mobility strategy alongside Xirrus to help secure and manage devices.
To meet these goals, Houston County deployed Xirrus wireless arrays and management software, along with VMware AirWatch for mobile device, email, and application management. The combined solution enabled secure BYOD access, centralized policy enforcement, and easier device provisioning while helping IT reduce support burden. The district also achieved measurable infrastructure savings by deploying 721 Xirrus Arrays instead of 1,225 traditional APs, cutting 504 devices, cable runs, and switch ports while supporting 30+ high-bandwidth devices per classroom.
