Gulf Air’s AirWatch-Enabled EFB Project Achieves Tangible Benefits

Gulf Air, the national carrier of Bahrain, needed a cost-effective way to provide pilots with timely access to the latest flight manuals, procedures, flight plans, and weather data while reducing printing and improving operational efficiency. To meet this challenge, Gulf Air selected VMware AirWatch to manage an electronic flight bag (EFB) program using AirWatch-managed iPads and content management tools.

With VMware AirWatch, Gulf Air deployed secure digital access to flight documentation through AirWatch Content Locker and AirWatch Catalog, enabling searchable, over-the-air synchronized information and aviation productivity apps for pilots. The solution improved workflow, increased pilot productivity, reduced paper printing by 50%—saving about 500,000 sheets per year—and allowed devices to be updated and remotely secured, delivering tangible cost and operational benefits.
