Chemring Locks Down Corporate Data Thanks to AirWatch

Chemring, a UK-based defense company operating globally across counter-IED, countermeasures, pyrotechnics, and munitions, needed a secure way to introduce mobile devices without exposing sensitive information. As it moved into the mobile marketplace, it chose VMware AirWatch to provide mobile device management and security, including support for encrypted access to board materials, email, calendars, and contacts.

With VMware AirWatch, Chemring implemented MDM, a Secure Web Browser, and Secure Content Locker to protect classified data on iPads and other devices used by senior executives. The solution let Chemring mirror laptop profiles on tablets, manage its Apple environment across multiple IT teams, and keep controls invisible to end users while making reporting and device management straightforward. The case study does not provide hard numeric results, but it reports improved security, control, and ease of management.
