A VIZpin Case Study
Ypsilanti Community Schools faced chronic key-control and after-hours access problems across its 12 buildings: lost keys, burdensome alarm-code tracking, and a previously quoted $100,000+ hardware upgrade that was unaffordable. After a referral, the district tested VIZpin’s Bluetooth-based, phone-as-key access control solution and installed the first reader in March 2017 to replace traditional keys at teachers’ entrances.
VIZpin was rolled out to 11 of 12 schools, with roughly 200 active app users and 775+ smartphone credentials available to be issued; the district is reclaiming physical keys and no longer issues unique alarm codes for key holders. VIZpin’s system gave Ypsilanti Community Schools precise entry reporting, easier mass-assignment of permissions via ROLES, and reduced after-hours staffing costs (no need to pay custodians), improving security, convenience, and measurable operational savings.
