Department of Emergency Services Finds Perfect System to Safeguard Cell Tower Sites

Chester County Department of Emergency Services (DES), which manages more than 30 critical cell tower sites in Southeastern Pennsylvania, was facing rising copper theft, vandalism and graffiti plus no activity logs or way to grant last-minute technician access. With limited budget for network hardware, DES evaluated RFID options but selected VIZpin’s cloud-based access control and the VIZpin SMART mobile app to secure sites and manage access remotely.

VIZpin deployed its cloud-based access control so staff use smartphones for entry, record all activity in the cloud, and manage users and sites from a central portal without on-site Internet or network gear. The VIZpin solution saved DES about $80,000 compared to proposed RFID systems, removed ongoing card-management costs, increased security by avoiding shared cards, and made the system scalable and easy to administer.
