UTMB Health, a comprehensive academic medical system in Texas, faced the challenge of improving patient care quality and safety while serving a large underserved population. Their historical ranking in the middle among peer academic medical centers highlighted areas for improvement. As a result, UTMB dramatically improved its Quality and Accountability Ranking from #76 to #9 and then to #4, maintaining top-ten status for years. Measurably, Vizient helped UTMB achieve a 50% reduction in central line bloodstream infections (CLABSI) and a current ranking of #24 out of 116 academic medical centers in 2024.
