With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility The Medupi Power Station Project

Medupi Power Station in Limpopo Province, South Africa faced major security challenges due to its vast footprint, long-distance monitoring needs, and limited on-site network infrastructure. VIVOTEK was engaged (via system integrator Stallion Security) to deliver a high-resolution, site-wide surveillance solution using 200 VIVOTEK cameras (FE8174V and SD8363E models) to monitor smoke stacks, conveyors and canteens.

VIVOTEK commissioned 200 cameras—131 FE8174V 5MP/1080p (30 FPS) fisheye units and 69 SD8363E 1080p (30 FPS) units with 20x optical zoom—integrated with Milestone XProtect Corporate to provide bandwidth-efficient (H.264) 24/7 coverage with IP66/IK10 and NEMA 4X protection. The deployment delivered clear, zoom-capable imagery across the site, improved situational awareness, a scalable platform for future expansion, and strong customer satisfaction (the client is reported to be “extremely happy” with VIVOTEK’s image quality).
