A VIVOTEK Case Study
Luminus Technology was tasked with protecting the UNESCO World Heritage site of Petra, Jordan, where heavy tourist traffic was threatening fragile rock-cut architecture and historic structures. Seeking a solution that was powerful, durable and discreet, Luminus engaged VIVOTEK and its IP surveillance offerings, including VIVOTEK VAST video management and a range of cameras and NVRs, to design a system that would monitor the entire site without detracting from its natural beauty.
VIVOTEK deployed a total of 550 IP cameras (notably the SD8364E speed dome and FE8180 fisheye), plus ND8422P/ND8322P NVRs and VAST software to provide centralized, high-resolution coverage. The SD8364E delivers 1080p, 30x optical zoom and IP67/NEMA 4X protection for harsh conditions, while the compact FE8180 can replace three to four standard CCTV units—reducing cost and visual impact. The VIVOTEK solution enabled seamless, site-wide monitoring that protects Petra’s heritage for future generations, with measurable outcomes including the installation of 550 cameras and significant equipment- and cost-savings from FE8180 consolidation.
