Kuruman's Manganese Mine - Customer Case Study

Kuruman's Manganese Mine in Kuruman, South Africa needed a site-wide surveillance solution to protect workers and secure a new, not-yet-operational manganese mine in a harsh, tightly regulated environment with no existing communications infrastructure. The project required IP-based cameras capable of real-time monitoring across a 12 square kilometer site, so VIVOTEK network cameras were selected while I3S Security Solutions built the wireless backbone using RADWIN point-to-point and point-to-multipoint links.

Working with local distributor Miro and installer I3S Security, VIVOTEK supplied and deployed over 150 high-end network cameras (bullet, fisheye, speed dome and PTZ models with 2–5 MP resolution) covering the village, shafts, entry turnstiles and other critical areas. The VIVOTEK system integrated with the new wireless network, access control and safety systems to deliver real-time, high-resolution video to the central control room, improving worker safety and site security across the 12 km² site and providing a scalable platform for full mining operations.
