Case Study: NASA advances Orion mission monitoring with VITEC IP streaming solution

A VITEC Case Study

Preview of the NASA Case Study

Vitec's Technology Innovation Contributes to the Nasa Mission

NASA needed a reliable way to monitor and maintain equipment on the Orion Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle for future Moon and Mars missions, but its video environment was highly demanding, with extreme conditions, mixed proprietary and open standards, and varying frame rates, resolutions, and bitrates. VITEC, using its IP streaming and decoding technology, helped NASA modernize IPTV distribution for this mission.

VITEC implemented rugged, low-latency IP video decoders, including the MGW Ace Decoder, to receive, decode, and output video on standard interfaces like HDMI and SDI. The solution preserved NASA’s existing investments, improved access for Earth-based experts, and supported monitoring of critical systems and potential panel cracks across QCIF to 4K streams, though the case study does not cite a specific numeric performance gain.
