Vitec Delivers Live Low Latency Remote Commentary Over the Internet for Broadcasters

Eurosport needed a reliable way to deliver live sports commentary from remote locations during COVID-era lockdowns, while keeping latency low enough for live broadcast use. VITEC provided an IP streaming solution built around its MGW Ace Encoder and remote commentary workflow, designed to let commentators work from home without special on-site infrastructure.

VITEC’s solution used ultra-low-latency HEVC encoding, ChannelLink IP gateway replication, and secure transport over the public internet to send video to commentators and return their audio to the production studio. The system achieved a point-to-point delay of under 250ms, worked across major events including the Tour de France and Grand Slam tennis tournaments, and is now part of Eurosport’s day-to-day operations.
