Defense Visual Information Distribution Service (DVIDS) supports 24/7 worldwide media distribution for U.S. military operations, but it had to work in locations with extremely limited bandwidth. To ensure contributors could reliably send high-quality live video and audio from the field and to better manage incoming streams at its hub, DVIDS turned to VITEC for a more efficient encoding and decoding workflow.
VITEC implemented its HEVC Video Multi-Site Contribution Solution, including MGW Ace Encoders, MGW Ace Decoders, VITEC Playout Server, and Zixi-powered stream protection. The result was a bandwidth reduction for HD services from 3 Mbps to 1 Mbps while maintaining the same video quality, along with improved quality of service and easier management of global feeds through the VITEC Playout Server.
