Fighting Fire With Vitec Enterprise Iptv Solution

Portland Oregon Fire & Rescue (PF&R) faced a challenge with its aging analog video distribution system used for staff training. Three of its firehouses lacked network connectivity, forcing the department to use a time-consuming process of duplicating videos onto DVDs. This incomplete system prevented real-time, system-wide communications and training. PF&R sought a cost-effective solution that would utilize its existing connectivity, leading them to select the VITEC H.264 MGW 1100 Media Gateway platform.

The VITEC solution allowed PF&R to stream video content simultaneously to all firehouses using their T-1 broadband connections, delivering it directly to PCs and laptops. VITEC's IPTV system provided excellent picture quality at low bit rates and could operate alongside the legacy analog system. The implementation provided the department with a future-proof, carrier-grade platform capable of supporting live remote monitoring, system-wide announcements, and video-on-demand, ensuring all stations are synchronized in their readiness preparation.
