Feature Story News transmits two flawless live paths from Havana with VITEC

Feature Story News (FSN), a leading independent broadcast news agency, faced the challenge of reliably transmitting high-definition broadcast signals from remote locations with extremely limited bandwidth. For the historic visit of President Obama to Cuba, FSN needed a portable, point-to-point video streaming system that could overcome these constraints and ensure error-free, low-latency coverage. They turned to VITEC for a solution.

VITEC implemented its MGW Ace portable HEVC hardware encoder and MGW D265 decoder. This solution used advanced H.265 compression and Zixi error correction to dramatically reduce bandwidth requirements while providing a robust, broadcast-quality stream. The result was a complete success; despite tropical storms that disrupted traditional satellite providers, FSN delivered continuous, error-free coverage of the event to its global clients, making history with the first HD broadcast signals transmitted from Cuba over the public internet.
