A VITEC Case Study
Overlake Medical Center, a 350-bed regional hospital in Washington, wanted to improve the patient entertainment experience as part of its $250 million campus renewal project. The hospital needed to replace its legacy coaxial TV setup with a modern IPTV system that could unify 350 patient rooms, common areas, and a lobby videowall on a single centrally managed network. VITEC, through the Exterity IPTV platform, was selected to help deliver a more connected and patient-friendly in-room media experience.
VITEC implemented an IPTV solution built around a 4TB management server, VoD services, custom in-house channels, patient education content, Pro:Idiom-encrypted Hollywood movies, ATSC/QAM gateways, and an AvediaStream m9605 media player for the lobby videowall. The new system gave Overlake a simple, reliable way to deliver video content and improve wayfinding and patient engagement, while making room controls intuitive with a nurse-call pillow-speaker remote. The result was a significantly improved patient experience and a more streamlined, consumer-like entertainment service across the hospital.
