Case Study: Red Wing Shoes achieves increased employee wellness engagement and activity with Vitality

A Vitality Case Study

Preview of the Red Wing Shoes Case Study

Red Wing Shoes proves there is no I in team. Champs take the lead

Red Wing Shoes faced a fragmented wellness culture: interest existed but was mostly at corporate, not in the field or stores, and their internally managed point system had become too cumbersome to scale. In July 2012 they launched Vitality’s wellness program to gain the tools, branding and resources needed to expand participation and make wellness more accessible across the company.

Vitality delivered a branded, multi-dimensional program—online tools, courses, incentive tracking and a Mental Well-being Review—supported by a network of local Vitality Champs who drove peer engagement and activities. The program boosted name recognition, broadened focus to physical, mental and financial health, and produced measurable impact: RWS employees walked 129,263 miles in program year 3, many more Champs joined, and members reported life-changing engagement (one retiree asked to keep website access), demonstrating Vitality’s cultural and participation gains.
