Preview of the PepsiCo Case Study

PepsiCo - Customer Case Study

PepsiCo faced the challenge of expanding access to affordable, nutritious food and building community partnerships to address summer meal gaps and broader workforce/community health needs. Vitality profiled PepsiCo in its "Beyond the Four Walls" case study, documenting how the company used programs like the social enterprise Food for Good and its leadership role in the Healthy Weight Commitment Foundation to tackle food insecurity and drive healthier product offerings.

Vitality’s report shows PepsiCo implemented Food for Good to deliver USDA-compliant meals, run pop-up farm stands and backpack meal bundles, and engage R&D and frontline staff in logistics and product innovation; in 2014 PepsiCo delivered 1.4 million meals (6.1 million servings of grains, dairy, fruits and vegetables), helped sell over 400,000 servings of produce via markets, created 100+ local jobs (plus 100+ nonprofit summer jobs) and projected 1 million weekend “backpack” servings in 2015. Vitality also highlights PepsiCo’s participation in the HWCF, where coalition members collectively removed 6.4 trillion calories from the marketplace (a 78-calorie per person reduction) and lower-calorie product sales grew—driving measurable business gains such as a $485 million increase in lower-calorie product sales.
