McKesson, a Fortune 500 leader in healthcare services, partnered with Vitality in 2011 to enhance an existing employer wellness program. Facing the challenge of boosting member engagement, improving modifiable health behaviors and lowering medical costs, McKesson migrated to Vitality’s comprehensive, behaviorally informed, incentivized and tier‑based program and to Vitality’s online portal and mobile platform.
Vitality deployed its evidence- and actuarial‑based solution — including Vitality Points™, Vitality Status®, the Vitality HealthyFood Program™, a Vitality Champ® network, subsidized activity trackers and a dedicated Wellness Strategy Manager — and integrated reporting and challenges to drive sustained engagement. The results, independently evaluated by Harvard, included $4.7M in medical cost savings, a 9% reduction in lifestyle/biometric risk, a 92% increase in engaged adult participants, a 23% rise in verified workouts, 39% of members at Gold/Platinum status (up from 12% in 2012), a 31% HealthyFood enrollment and a 3.65% gain in on‑the‑job performance; the program also earned McKesson the C. Everett Koop National Health Award.
