McCarthy Building Companies, Inc. is a multi-state, employee-owned construction firm with 1,900 employees (and 1,000 spouses on their medical plan) that sought to strengthen its internally developed “Build for Life” wellness program after rising claims and engagement barriers—limited time at computers on job sites, low familiarity with online tools, and the need to simplify and integrate other benefits. McCarthy partnered with Vitality to bring a more personalized, tech-enabled wellness solution that could reach field, office and remote employees.

Vitality implemented an integrated program—on-site biometric screenings feeding into the Vitality platform, a simple mobile app, Vitality Bucks™ for wearables, Vitality Points™/Status® incentives, and regular challenges—while folding McCarthy’s existing programs into the portal. Over four years McCarthy saw strong results with Vitality: 77% completed a Health Risk Assessment, 52% of registrants used the mobile app, 21,000 employer-sponsored events with 69% engagement, 129 activities per employee per year, an 88% increase in employees reaching Gold/Platinum status, a 15.5% overall improvement in risk, and a 5.4x increase in monthly average activities.
