HDR, a global engineering, architecture, environmental and construction services firm, turned to Vitality four years ago to improve employee health after rising claims and uneven wellness practices across offices. Before Vitality, healthy habits varied by location and catered food choices and activity levels were inconsistent, so HDR needed a scalable program to engage employees companywide.
Vitality implemented its wellness program with companywide challenges, device syncing, and incentives like Vitality Points and Vitality Status tied to insurance premiums. Results included 650 employees losing a combined 6,500 pounds in a 2014 weight-loss challenge, 900 employees tracking fruit and vegetable intake for four weeks, and a “Maintain Don’t Gain” holiday challenge that awarded 250 Vitality Points for success — all driving higher engagement and measurable health behavior change.
