Equity Residential, an S&P 500 owner/operator of high-quality apartment properties with about 3,800 mostly remote employees, faced rapidly rising healthcare costs and a culture that underused preventive care—many employees relied on ERs and missed screenings. To shift toward prevention and better health engagement, Equity Residential implemented the Vitality program, seeking a platform that would give employees a clear, actionable view of their health.
Vitality delivered a Health Results dashboard, the “Vitality Age” metric and screening incentives that drove strong participation—almost 70% of employees completed the Vitality Health Review and nearly 40% completed the Vitality Check—leading to tangible behavior change and at least one early-detected, life‑saving heart surgery. Vitality’s tools and the company’s Vitality Champs rollout increased grassroots engagement, improved preventive care uptake, and started to change Equity Residential’s health culture.
