DaVita Medical Group (DMG), a multi-state provider caring for hundreds of thousands of patients, faced rising costs after moving to a self-insured medical plan and senior leadership mandated a wellness program to curb premiums and improve employee health. In 2010 DMG partnered with Vitality to deploy a data-driven, evidence-based wellness solution, including Vitality Health Review and later Vitality Active Rewards with Apple Watch.
Vitality implemented a holistic program combining clinical risk assessment, targeted communications, on-site Vitality Champs®, and incentives (Vitality Points™, Vitality Bucks®, and the Vitality Mall) plus the Vitality Active Rewards with Apple Watch intervention. The partnership produced measurable impact: 34% increase in daily steps, 50% more days physically active, 35% increase in activity tracking, a 7% net improvement in risk groups, a 9x increase in activities per month, a 2.25x ROI, and strong employee sentiment (95% say Vitality improves workplace culture; 98% report improved health and well‑being).
