A Vitality Case Study
CareSource, a nonprofit multi-state health plan and the largest employer in Dayton with over 4,700 employees, needed to sustain a culture of health and keep a geographically dispersed, hybrid workforce engaged after plans for an on-site employee clinic were canceled during the pandemic. To meet that challenge, CareSource partnered with Vitality and rolled out the Vitality wellbeing platform—using health assessments, the Challenges platform, and ongoing program outreach beginning at new-hire orientation—to create baseline measurement and ongoing motivation for employees.
Vitality supported CareSource with account management, data-driven strategy, challenges, Wellness Champions and events (like a 5K Fun Run), producing measurable outcomes: nearly 700 members participate in challenges each year, highly engaged Vitality members reported better health perceptions, higher life and work satisfaction and fewer health-related absences, and experienced a 10% reduction in turnover versus lower-engaged peers; an actuarial analysis showed an average 11.0% improvement in employee risk groupings versus age‑adjusted expected risk. CareSource continues to expand its Wellness Champions program and leverage Vitality’s platform and insights to further increase engagement and improve workforce wellbeing.
