Alfa Laval - Customer Case Study

Alfa Laval, a global supplier of heat‑transfer, separation and fluid‑handling solutions with more than 17,000 employees, partnered with Vitality (since 2015) to improve employee health engagement. Their challenge: engagement dropped off after employees completed only the Health Assessment and biometric screening, and COVID‑19 made biometric screenings harder to access—threatening eligibility for preferred premium discounts—so Alfa Laval needed a way to drive deeper, sustained participation without devaluing regular care.

Working with Vitality and their Wellness Strategy Manager (WSM), Alfa Laval shifted to a more flexible incentive design—allowing Health Assessment plus either a biometric screening or attainment of Silver Status through alternative activities—and implemented a preferred pricing tiered model (partial discount for Silver, full discount for Gold/Platinum), launched Active Rewards and more inclusive challenges, and strengthened communications and onboarding. The results: Gold/Platinum status rose to 35% (from a 22.7% average pre‑change), an acquired group reached 60% Silver+ in six months, Active Rewards engaged 500+ members in six months, and families can save nearly $2,400 annually; Vitality also reports higher‑status members show outcomes like 30% lower Vitality Age, 18% lower turnover and 11% fewer health‑related absences.
