Understanding Internal Delays Using MCAP Royal Brompton & Harefield NHS Foundation Trust
Royal Brompton & Harefield NHS Foundation Trust used VitalHub’s MCAP to understand internal delays affecting discharge on its Respiratory Medicine unit. The challenge was that patients were waiting for a chest X-ray after a procedure and for medical review, which was slowing down discharge and extending length of stay.
Using MCAP reviews, VitalHub helped ward and deputy sisters work with the relevant medical care group and radiologist to improve midday discharge. X-rays are now requested first thing in the morning and reviewed as quickly as possible, and VitalHub reported that this has improved pre-midday discharges; for asthma care patients, the proportion discharged before midday increased by 25%.
