A Case Study of Markham Stouffville Hospitals Partnership with Oculys Health Informatics

Markham Stouffville Hospital (MSH), a fast-growing two-site community hospital serving more than 400,000 residents in Ontario, was struggling to keep patient flow under control as demand increased. To improve its Pay-for-Performance results and patient experience, MSH partnered with VitalHub, using Oculys Health Informatics solutions such as the ED wait-time clock and operational visibility tools to become more proactive and transparent.

VitalHub helped MSH implement real-time visibility and communication across the ED and hospital operations, replacing manual phone and paper-based processes with actionable data. The results were significant: MSH moved up 20 places in performance rankings, improved funding rank by 11 places, increased ED visits by 14%, cut left-without-being-seen from 1.6% to 1%, reduced time to inpatient bed from 28.5 to 20.3 hours, and lowered ED LOS for admitted patients from 34.8 to 26.4 hours.
