Vaisala, a global company known for its precision instruments and sensors, faced a space challenge at its Vantaa headquarters due to growing production demand. The company invested €10 million in a new logistics center and needed to validate that the complex automated system, built around an AutoStore retrieval system, would work efficiently before construction began. Vaisala used the 3D simulation platform from vendor Visual Components to model the entire facility and de-risk the project.

Using Visual Components, the automation team built a full digital twin of the logistics center connected to real process data. The simulation revealed bottlenecks, such as over-utilized repacking stations, and helped optimize operator allocation and material flow. This data-backed approach improved communication with stakeholders, saved at least a month in planning time, and informed crucial decisions on layout and future automation scalability, ensuring the new center would double logistics capacity as intended.
