Case Study: Sandvik Mining reduces robot programming time and boosts welding automation with Visual Components OLP

A Visual Components Case Study

Sandvik Mining cuts robot programming time by more than half with Visual Components

Sandvik Mining, a manufacturer of heavy-duty underground loaders and trucks, faced challenges in programming complex multi-pass welds for their equipment. Using traditional teach pendant methods was slow and inefficient, leading to unnecessary robot cell downtime and difficulties in ensuring weld quality and reachability. To address this, Sandvik adopted offline programming software from Visual Components.

By implementing Visual Components' OLP software, Sandvik was able to program its welding robots virtually. This allowed the team to simulate and validate robot paths, test weld reachability, and standardize multi-pass welding profiles before production. The solution reduced robot programming time by more than half, improved weld quality and repeatability, and increased robot cell utilization. For large frames, ramp-up time was cut to just a few weeks.
